East anglian guitarists

East Anglian Guitarists are enthusiastic amateurs who meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month (at 8.00 p.m.) in the Church Centre at St Andrew's.  We play solos, duets, trios and quartets and welcome guitarists of all styles and standards.  The intention is to provide a friendly forum for players who want to try out new pieces in front of an audience (prior to exams or formal concerts for instance) or who simply wish to play music with friends.  We form a supportive and sympathetic audience who all understand the difficulties of controlling nerves and shaking hands and all love the guitar.  There's no obligation to play and we are happy for friends and partners to come along and listen.  Guitar and other instrument/voice combinations are also welcome.  Anyone with an interest in the guitar can come along to one of our meetings - we'd be delighted to see (and hear!) you.

We charge £4 per session just to cover room hire and refreshments.

Cherry hinton local history society

Cherry Hinton Local History Society meets in the Church Centre at 7.30 pm on the last Monday of most months. A talk is followed by questions, coffee and a raffle to help the society’s funds. The society also arranges excursions.

Membership for 2010 costs £10 for single members and £18 for couples. Guest membership for anyone who would just like to attend one talk is £2. Recent speakers have been the Mayor, Cllr. Russ McPherson, and Alan Brigham. Our November meeting always includes a talk, the AGM and Christmas Party.

Paul Hawes told us all about the Burwell Museum of Fen Edge Village Life in January. He brought various exhibits with him including a tool for removing fleas from horses! The Society is hoping to arrange a follow-up visit to the museum.

On February 3rd 30 members visited the Guildhall. We sat in the Council Chamber, were given a talk by the Sergeant at Mace, Chris Cracknel, drank tea, looked at the regalia and visited the Mayor’s Parlour. We all enjoyed the visit very much and are grateful to Cllr and Mrs. McPherson and Chris Cracknell for giving up their time to make us so welcome.
